Just plain wrong…

January 28th, 2008 · No Comments

I found this piece by Jason Calacanis to be an interesting mix of entrepreneurship theory, “Crossing the Chasm” and self-promotion… and I was left with the conclusion that the real message of the piece is “tireless self-promotion is the key.”  I’m sure that message was unintended, but it’s probably a more useful lesson than the surface message about early adopters, skeptics and the great unwashed masses.
But what’s especially interesting is that a researcher is saying that the surface message is completely wrong. It is all about luck.  Seeking out the coolhunters of the world is an expensive and, as it turns out, not especially effective marketing strategy.

I think Jason’s “You have to be a player” was actually much more insightful. Also I wish he’d fix the typos in the article, as they were somewhat jarring.
