Billy Bragg in the NYT

Writing about how all the “free” zealots are kind of screwing musicians. I was lucky enough to have a beer with Mr. Bragg once upon a time, and I have nothing but admiration for him. This is actually one of the things I discovered in California - land of the big record company screwing over the little musician - a picture I discovered to be not all that accurate. The music industry is being destroyed, and as usual it hurts little people and entrepreneurs more than the people at the top. Heck, most of the true scumbags have just remade themselves as executives at internet companies. The pain is real.

I watched a VISA ad about someone using his card to start a new business. The fact that the business was a record label made it seem like an archaeological artifact.

I have downloaded music in the past, but for the last two years, my only source of new music has been CDs that I buy and rip (probably illegal somewhere).

The first of the ad-supported tech apologists weighs in.
