I love this guy

Mark Zuckerberg and Aaron Greenspan

“Greenspan, who presents similar claims to have had an uncredited role in Facebook’s origins, said he has no intention of suing the company. He has, however, plunged into a quixotic and surprisingly adept legal effort to challenge the company’s registered trademark. In addition, he’s using the experience of publicly criticizing Facebook to inform his own startup.

…Still, the company just down the road is a preoccupation for him, even when discussing ideas for the startup he plans to build independently.
I tend to work on very big, long-terms ideas, which can be great if you get tons of funding … like Facebook has,” Greenspan said.”

Meanwhile the best that the genius behind facebook can come up with, most likely with massive PR help, is “Every 100 years media changes.”

Emphasis added by me.

Happy Birthday to Me!, originally uploaded by ojbyrne.

My new boss trolled for book recommendations recently on twitter, and was talking about your typical business/strategy (BS) type books. I plan to put these on his desk when he comes back. Because inspiration trumps strategy.

Henry Morgentaler and the Outing of Scumbags

July 9th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Henry Morgentaler’s Order of Canada seems to be serving as a litmus test of sorts. Basically every bozo and scumbag who ever got the Order of Canada is lining up to give it back. Self-selection at it’s finest. Once they’re done, the Order of Canada will be a more honorable place. Or at least they’ll have thinned the ranks of religious wackos and right-wing extremists.

“Morgentaler, 85, is a Polish-born Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Montreal after the war and opened an abortion clinic in 1969, where he performed thousands of what were then illegal abortion procedures.

A family physician, Morgentaler argued that access to abortion was a basic human right and that women should not have to risk death at the hands of an untrained professional in order to end their pregnancies.

Morgentaler’s clinics were often raided by police, and one in Toronto was firebombed.

Morgentaler was arrested several times and spent months in jail as he fought his case at all court levels in Canada.”

It’s clear that even if you don’t agree with abortion, that Morgentaler is a hero. And the people lining up to protest are the exact opposite.

Iphone is Just a Trojan

Gotta love this, from Apple:

In order to purchase one in the US you’re going to need:

* Credit card
* Social security number
* Valid, government-issued photo ID
* Your current wireless account number and password or PIN (if you’re new to AT&T)

Emphasis added. Here’s a page on when and why not to give out your SSN. Having your SSN tied to the surveillance records should make everything a lot easier for the Stasi.

I’m not going to even get into the nightmare that is Canadian telecom - chances are they’ll want to take a DNA sample.

Top Digg Unpromoted Stories 2008-06-28 to 2008-07-05

This week Ron Paul gets the honor of being at the top of this list. I’m continuing to be impressed that stories can get that many diggs without the benefit of front page exposure. In a sense, they are the “best of the best” on digg - even more than the top ten.

Automation

After some messing around, I’ve automated my weekly “top digg unpromoted stories” seen below. Which means that I’ll be automatically generating these every Tuesday morning. This week again brings a big outlier, the “Website is Down” video that got lots of play everywhere on the web last week.
